George Flavell in Rotorua 2010
On September the 18th George Flavell visited Rotorua to give an all day demonstration of woodturning combined with some wood carving. The hosts were the Geyserland Woodworkers Guild with a lot of additional support from Tauranga Woodcrafters Club and Whakatane Woodcraft Club. The day started at 9.00 and finished at 4.00pm with lots of turning and eating between.
In total there were 37 keen turners came along to see a very good demonstration by George. What a privilege it was to watch and hear George. This man gave us so much more than a demonstration of turning and carving, we learned so much of his culture, his spirituality, of how his designs each tell a story.
We all went home very happy and keen to try some of the things he had done.
